About Us

Congregation Ohr Shalom began in 1923 as the Unity Club of Summit, when twelve families came together to support religious practices, pray, and educate their children about Judaism. Today, Congregation Ohr Shalom—the Summit Jewish Community Center—welcomes members from Summit and surrounding communities, including New Providence, Berkeley Heights, the Chathams, Madison, Short Hills, and Springfield.

We worship, socialize, and learn together through daily worship and holidays, family celebrations, the Early Learning Center, the Jewish Learning Center, youth programs, adult education, social programs for all ages, environmental programs, and more. Our congregation looks forward to many more generations as a vital part of the Jewish community and the community at large.
